New Study Proves Treatment for Knee Osteoarthritis

The results of a new study show that the combination of the BioniCare Knee System and OActive knee brace is more effective than any other treatment option for osteoarthritis of the knee. Patients with OA who use the treatment combination have a greater ability to quicken their recovery time and defer more severe, high-risk treatment options such as total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The implementation of the BioniCare and OActive brace combination by healthcare providers could potentially save the healthcare industry an estimated $400 million annually in TKA deferrals .

Knee Pain Relief without Surgery

When you have painful osteoarthritis in your knee, a surgery and daily pain medication may seem like the only options. That pain can be severe enough to interrupt your life and effect you emotionally.

If you are looking for alternatives to surgery and medication, consider Bionicare. Bionicare uses electrical stimulation that cannot be feld and an off-loading knee brace. Certified orthotists at Scheck & Siress now fit our patients with Bionicare. The device is FDA approved, backed by strong research and covered by Medicare.

Advancements For Hip Disarticulation Prosthetics

The attached article was printed in the O & P Almanac in June, 2011.  In it, experts describe advances brought by the convergence of new materials and electronic prosthetic components for patients with this very difficult level of amputation. It might be to go shopping, to stand with peers at social functions- those are all very realistic goals... as a starting point.  Read more:

Roger Ebert's New Facial Prosthesis

What could be more personal, more important to your own identity than your face?  Recently, Scheck & Siress Prosthetist David Rotter had the opportunity to restore the appearance of film critic Roger Ebert's face.  Ebert describes the process in his Chicago Sun Times blog here, http://blogs.suntimes.com/ebert/2010/05/putting_a_better_face_on_thing.html

Ebert had his jawbone removed in cancer surgery and now lives cancer-free.  Unfortunately, subsequent cosmetic surgeries failed and his face lacks support and its former shape.

Rotter, with the artistic skill of Anaplastologist Julie Jordan Brown, has created a supportive, protective and cosmetic prosthesis for Ebert's chin and jaw area.  What an honor to work with such a respected, dynamic leader in journalism and film!
